Live creatively friends…make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given and sink yourself into that. Don’t compare yourself to others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.
Galations 6:1, 4-5 The Message
I found this verse in Debbie Macomber’s book called Knit Together and I thought, ” Wow, not only do you need to give yourself permission to enjoy taking time to be creative, it is your RESPONSIBILITY to do so.” I like that…a lot. Because I enjoy my creative pursuits so much, I often feel a teensy bit guilty for enjoying what I do. It feels like I should be cleaning my house or doing yardwork or something PRODUCTIVE and not so much fun. Ridiculous huh? I think they also call it ‘constructive procrastination’. I’ll spend time emptying the dishwasher, going to the grocery store, running errands, etc. because once I get all of those tasks completed I can reward myself by spending time in my studio. Well, that is completely backwards, isn’t it? Protect your time. Protect your studio hours. Enjoy your creative spirit. It’s a gift. Use it.
