COASTAL ART TO REMIND YOU OF THE BEACH
You don’t have to have a beach house to collect coastal art. If you live in the middle of the country and love the ocean, why not collect coastal art to remind you of the beach?
What I like about coastal decor is the clean, relaxed vibe. You’re creating a ‘feeling’ in your home that makes you happy or reminds you of your ‘happy place.’
Why would you not decorate your home with coastal art if that’s your ‘happy place?’
It doesn’t have to be over-the-top seashells and mermaids, but just a touch or two of things that remind you of the beach. Whether coastal art, a bowl of seashells, or even a nautical touch.
Many people bring a souvenir home from their travels, either from the coast or other places….whether jewelry, t-shirts, or an unusual find from a cute shop. Why not collect art to remind you of the beach?
For years I collected cookbooks and Christmas ornaments whenever we traveled somewhere new. I’ve given up on the cookbooks, but I still enjoy a unique t-shirt and ornaments that remind me of places we’ve visited. Every year decorating the tree, I am reminded of trips we took over the years.
I like a home that feels collected and full of personal stories, so I tend to find home decor when I travel, whether to the beach or somewhere else.
You can find art that reminds you of a particular place, not necessarily the beach. You don’t need to find something while traveling but can always get it after returning from a memorable trip. One year for Mother’s Day, my husband bought me a painting with the Golden Gate Bridge subtly in the background to remind me of our frequent trips there. When I look at that piece of art now, it takes me back to the little apartment we rented in Tiburon with views of the Golden Gate. We would take the ferry to and from the city, eat seafood at Sam’s Anchor Cafe, walk the hills daily, and enjoy California wine and the views of the bay.
That’s what art can do.
But back to coastal decor. The idea is to make your home feel like a getaway and a place you want to be. In addition to coastal art, you can make your home feel like the coast by painting the walls white, adding layers of natural touches such as sisal and jute, and keeping your furniture light and casual.
And adding a piece or two of coastal art to remind you of the beach.
