LIVE CREATIVELY FRIENDS…
‘Live creatively friends…make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given and sink yourself into that. Don’t compare yourself to others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.’ Galations 6:1, 4-5 The Message
I found this verse in Debbie Macomber’s book called Knit Together and I thought, ” Wow, not only do I need to give myself permission to enjoy taking time to be creative, it is my RESPONSIBILITY to do so.”
I LIKE THAT. A LOT.
Because I enjoy my creative pursuits so much, I often feel a teensy bit guilty for enjoying what I do. It feels like I should be cleaning my house or doing yard work or something PRODUCTIVE and not so much fun.
Silly, right?
I think they also call it ‘constructive procrastination’. I spend time emptying the dishwasher, going to the grocery store, running errands, and making phone calls, oh and of course..checking email, because once I get all of those tasks completed I can reward myself by spending time in my studio.
Well, that is completely backwards, isn’t it?
AS CREATIVES, WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR TIME.
Protect our studio hours, if we even have them. Enjoy our creative spirit. Our creativity is a gift. Shouldn’t we use it?
Without feeling guilty.
Want more thoughts on living creatively? If you’re a mom, I like this one.
Pam,
I love this post…it is so true. Guilt often keeps us from doing those things we truly love…like you my love is creating art. Thank you for sharing this scripture…I plan to post it so I can read it daily.
Thanks Vickie…maybe I need to post it so I can read it daily too! I saw on your blog that you were also in Atlanta for the License & Design show. Maybe we can inspire each other! Pam
