NEW FLORAL PAINTINGS: ‘GROW’ COLLECTION
These new floral paintings in the ‘Grow’ collection are not just about flowers. Although I love to be surrounded by their beauty. It is actually about us. About growing and learning and living our best lives.
We never stop growing.
At least, I hope not. I want to continue to grow to be a kinder, more genuine person every day. I want to learn something new each day, challenge my mind, and discover something interesting I didn’t know about the day before. Therefore, this new art collection of floral paintings symbolizes that desire for growth.
Plus, I just love flowers.
My mom was a florist when I was growing up. When I was old enough to drive, I would make flower deliveries at busy times like Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day. I loved walking into the shop and immediately smelling the fresh flowers. I still buy flowers from the grocery store every week and love to have fresh flowers around my house. However, I don’t paint them often, just a couple of times a year.
But since it’s spring, my mind is on painting florals.
As I painted this new floral collection, I focused on varying the flowers and sizes but keeping the palette softer than my usual palette. In order to do that, I kept some of the colors a bit greyed down to allow the other colors to pop. Because I painted this collection of smalls and mediums over a few weeks, you can see that some are looser and some more technically accurate. It’s fun to experiment with smaller works, and mixing up the level of ‘looseness’ was a way to challenge my creativity.
These new ‘Grow’ floral paintings are available on my website today, Friday, April 7, at 10 am et.
