SKIPPING THANKSGIVING
Today we took down our Halloween decorations. Today I heard my first Christmas song on the radio. We just skipped right over Thanksgiving. Of course, we don’t really want to miss that wonderful day of blessings, family and roasted turkey hot from the oven. However, the retail industry doesn’t have a big reason to focus on it. The market is miniature compared to Halloween and Christmas. And that’s okay. I love the simplicity of Thanksgiving. Simple because there is nothing to buy and I don’t usually cook, but enjoy a wonderful feast prepared by my mother-in-law. Of course, I’m happy to help, just don’t have to do all the planning.
In the art licensing (and gift and stationery, etc…) world we are always planning several months in advance. You hear those stories about swimsuit models posing by the beach in the middle of January, freezing their tushes off. Same principle. Right now, as I enjoy my scented cinammon candle and my roaring fire in the fireplace, I’m thinking about spring collections. Flowers, easter bunnies, summer gatherings….However, it is important for all of us to enjoy today while planning for tomorrow. Remind me of that, will you?
