MY ART IN THE SOUTHERN LIVING IDEA HOUSE
When I first saw the Southern Living Idea House, the views of the boats in the water instantly captured my attention. From the upstairs porch, you can see in two directions. The community of River Dunes is a picturesque village with beautiful coastal architecture, a pool, water views, walkable streets, and a cute coffee shop.
But the inside is just as spectacular. Southern Living selected Charlotte Lucas Interior Design to design the interiors, and she captured the feel of the coast in a ‘grand millennial style.’ What I like best about her style is the layers of interest with wallpapers, antiques, and contemporary accents. She beautifully mixes old and new, and each room contains something unexpected. The house feels like a home full of collected art and antiques, yet is modern and relaxed.
The Southern Living Idea House is chock-full of art, and I love that.
It adds to the collected feel that I love. She mixed art in traditional and contemporary styles, and included various artist’s work. Charlotte Lucas and her team selected two of my prints for the house and had them framed at Campania in Charlotte. I couldn’t wait to see how they turned out, and I love how the contemporary white frames work against the patterned wallpaper.
The first piece, ‘Connections Matter,’ is a print from my ‘Postcards Collection‘ original. It is more abstract than I usually paint but in my typical favorite blues. The designer stacked it above another painting in the upstairs office.
The designer selected ‘Evening on the Water’ from the Abstract Harbor Collection to hang above the guest suite desk. This piece is one of my favorites, and I have a large canvas print of it in my guest room.
Both of these prints shown in the Southern Living Idea House will be available on my website soon. in both 11 x 14 and 16 x 20 sizes. They are printed beautifully on heavyweight watercolor paper.
I love anything interior design-related, magazines, tv shows, and especially a home tour. This one was spectacular, so it was a treat to tour the Southern Living Idea House.
And the Southern Living Idea House has an art studio with a comfy-looking upholstered window seat. How about that!
I came home with many new ideas for my own home, incorporating the antiques and contemporary art I already have and maybe adding something new. I appreciate the opportunity to have my work included in this beautiful space!
If you get the opportunity, it’s well worth the trip to see the 2022 Southern Living Idea House. Next time I’m going to stay right there in River Dunes and enjoy all the area has to offer. Southern Living will be publishing a spread about the house this fall, so look for pictures of the inside there!
